September 20-23: VJSS2026 Successfully Concluded in Hanoi

The 2nd Vietnam–Japan Semiconductor Symposium 2026 (VJSS2026) was successfully held in Hanoi, Vietnam, from September 20 to 23, 2026. Associate Professor Le Duc Anh served as a convener of the symposium, which was jointly organized by Vietnam Japan University, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and the Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals in Japan (AVIJ).

VJSS2026 brought together nearly 600 participants from universities, research institutions, government agencies, and semiconductor-related companies in Vietnam, Japan, and other countries. The program featured more than 40 plenary and invited talks, 110 oral and poster contributions, and approximately 12 industry presentations covering a broad range of topics, including integrated-circuit design, semiconductor materials and devices, fabrication, packaging and testing, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, and human-resource development.

Participation of the UTokyo NEXUS Team

Members of the University of Tokyo team participating in the JST NEXUS Vietnam–Japan semiconductor project made significant contributions to the symposium.

Professor Masaaki Tanaka and Professor Makoto Ikeda delivered public lectures for students and young researchers:

  • Prof. Masaaki Tanaka: “Spintronics – Fundamentals and Applications”
  • Prof. Makoto Ikeda: “Digital Circuits Design: From Algorithm to Chips”

Professor Ken Takeuchi and lab members also delivered an invited talk entitled:

  • Prof. Ken Takeuchi: “Memory-Centric Computing for AI Applications”

Three student researchers from Anh Lab and the UTokyo NEXUS project presented their latest research results:

  • Bui Thi Huyen Trang: “Influence of Growth Temperature on the Magnetic Properties of (Ga,Fe)Sb”
  • Tran Thi Minh Trang: “Enhancing the Stretchability of n-Doped Conducting Polymers”
  • Shingen Miura: “Twofold Anisotropy of Critical Magnetic Field in Superconducting α-Sn Films”

Their participation demonstrated the breadth of the UTokyo NEXUS team’s activities, ranging from semiconductor spintronics and quantum materials to flexible electronics, integrated-circuit design, and AI-oriented computing technologies.

Public Lectures and Student Engagement

One of the highlights of VJSS2026 was the Public Lecture Program, attended by more than 350 students from nine universities in Hanoi. The lectures introduced students to chip design and fabrication, next-generation compound semiconductors, and semiconductor spintronics. Student orientation, industry talks, and networking sessions also provided young researchers with opportunities to learn about academic and career pathways in the semiconductor field.

Through its scientific sessions, panel discussions, industry–academia exchanges, networking activities, and institutional visits, VJSS2026 strengthened connections among research, education, industry, and government. The symposium also created new opportunities for long-term collaboration between Vietnam and Japan in semiconductor research, graduate education, human-resource development, and technology innovation.

We sincerely thank all speakers, participants, sponsors, supporting organizations, students, and volunteers whose contributions made VJSS2026 a great success. We look forward to building on this momentum and further advancing the Vietnam–Japan semiconductor partnership.
